A Crisis Stabilization Unit: Mary K. Shell Center information provided by: Kern County Mental Health Department

The crisis stabilization unit offers the following services for adults and children:

  • 24 hour services including crisis intervention to prevent hospitalization
  • .Assessment and referral to other mental health services, including hospitals

  • Medication evaluation and monitoring

  • Psychiatric evaluation and monitoring

  • Support families and significant others

  • Case management services and linkage to useful resources
  • Substance abuse referrals

If you're having a mental health crisis, this isn't the place to go. I was ignored as I lay all night crying. Morning staff were nice but not psychiatrists and nobody caught that I was having a severe medication interaction. I attempted suicide the same day I was discharged. :-(
